Un extraordinary man, a great scientist, an affectionate human being.

Making this doll has been a very special thing to me, not only because of being a portrait -and the challenge a portrait entails- but also because it ought to be a very special piece, so much as is my dear friend Susana (who was her owner even when "my" little Darwin was no more than an idea in the wind). She helps me, listens to me, and makes possible the English version of my website, thus allowing it to reach many more (so many more!) eyes in the world. THANK YOU, SUSANA.

In the picture gallery, you can see pictures of the half-finished piece, a collage with the images of real Darwin I used to create it, and a couple of photomontages in which the doll is shown over the background of Darwin's own studio at Down House.

His height is 14 cm . (5-1/2"), he's modelled in Sculpey's "Living Doll". Hair and beard are in viscose. Clothes have been created adapting real-size patterns from 1870. The suit is cotton and the vest, silk. Jacket and vest display tiny metal buttons. Painted eyes.
